Greg Speck ( accordions and vocals)
Greg is the founder of Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers. He started the project after hearing C.J. Chenier perform in Albany, NY at a summer concert in 1995 with his son, Alek. His son looked at him and said, "Dad, you can play accordion like that. You should start a band like C.J.'s." So a family band was born with 12 year old Alek on drums and his 16 year old son Nicholas on bass. They performed fund raising benefit events for the Cathedral of All Saints Men and Boys Choir in Albany where Alek and Nick sang. The response was very encouraging and the band's first gig was at a Mardi Gras party in February, 1996. Greg's background in music began as a teenage band leader playing accordion in an eastern European folk music ensemble. Later he studied jazz arranging and piano improvisation and recorded four fusion CD's on his own GSM Record Label. He runs Stonewall Studio in Rensselaerville, NY which serves as the CSZM home base for writing, arranging and recording. On occasion, he tours with Lisa Haley and the ZydeKat's from Los Angeles, CA as the accordionist.
Brian Egan (drums and vocals)
A Mosher since 2000, Brian has played in over 500 performances with CSZM. His energy and enthusiasm for being "a percussionist who sings" is a vital asset to the band. During his 25 year career, he has taken the drum throne behind the Bob Eberly Orchestra (1940's Big Band Swing), the Classics IV (late 1960's pop) and in 2003, had the unique pleasure of touring with C.J. Chenier, son of zydeco pioneer Clifton Chenier. He is an expert at Beatle musicology and performing their music.
Trisha Blackwell (frottoir/scratchboard and French vocals)
Patricia Blackwell (Trish) is a graduate from The College of Saint Rose with her bachelor's degree in music education and a concentration in voice. She is currently teaching 1st and 2nd grade general music. Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers is the first band Trish has ever played the scratchboard with, and it's honestly the first time she's ever played the frottoir! She was brought into the Zydeco scene in October of 2007, and is now singing a few Cajun French tunes wiht the band. She is influenced by multiple genres of music. As long as it has a beat, she'll dance to it!
Drew McCabe (bass and vocals)
Drew McCabe has been performing on bass for over 20 years in rock, folk, blues, jazz and fusion bands. He has toured the northeast and recorded with the band Schleigho (Shlay-Ho) since 1995, sharing bass duties with two others bassists since 2000. In addition to playing bass he sang and composed much of the band's eclectic and intricate music. His playing and writing is influenced by great music of every genre from bebop and baroque to latin and reggae. He plays a Pedulla Pentabuzz 5-string fretless bass exclusively. Drew also specializes in brass instruments, and enjoys playing guitar, piano and the many band instruments he teaches at Durham Elementary School where he also teaches chorus and general music. He graduated with Bachelor's Degree in music performance and a Master's Degree in music education. Drew currently lives in Oak Hill, NY with his wife Jodie and son Nolen.
