Shot and edited by Alek Speck with help from Bill Speck, Kathie Speck and Natalie Kimbrough.
The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus 2020 in 13 minutes!
Below is an experimental “art” video I produced about The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus 2020 in 13 minutes! If you are at the parade observing the celebration, it takes over 2 ½ hours from beginning to end. Just copy the link and paste it into your browser at the top of your computer screen or use your TV if you can access You Tube.
This annual Mardi Gras Parade begins just a block from our home here and I’ve wanted to create this project for several years. So, here it is.
To avoid vertigo, try to watch it from a distance back from the screen. Best to view on a large TV with the sound at 11, too.
Feel free to share it with anyone you think may enjoy seeing New Orleans and a Star Wars themed parade which rolled here Feb. 1, 2020. Just go to YouTube, then search for Stonewall Studio Creations and find this project along with all of my other productions. I’d love to read your comments as well.
Hope you all are well during these very difficult times.
Stay safe and positive.
Greg

GSM Records releases single: 2020 Visions: Gonna Beat the Virus in the 504
(Greg Speck Music BMI)
New Orleans, LA, (March 2, 2021) -
As a resident of New Orleans, LA since 2010, Greg Speck (“Captain Squeeze”/ “Commodore Squeeze”/ “Squeeze”) has joined the musicians’ community as an accordion/keyboard member. After a lifetime career of producing fusion jazz with his bands SuperNOVA and nouveau zydeco records with Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers, he currently creates music and videos about life in New Orleans and beyond.
When asked to describe the origins of this spoken word single release, Speck said, “ I was journaling daily since the pandemic began in March, 2020, to help decompress and document these unprecedented COVID-19 times. I grew exhausted with the ritual and turned to poetry as an outlet. I was looking through a series of photos I had taken since Mardi Gras ended and generated an epic poem about New Orleans’ scenes I observed each month while riding my bicycle in the city. The images drove the language for 2020 Visions: Gonna Beat the Virus in the 504. I shared the poem with several friends and they gave me constructive feedback that I really appreciated. One suggested turning it into a musical piece. I had no intension of doing that initially but after watching a Last Poets piece on YouTube, I felt compelled to experiment with a spoken word concept.”
Speck decided to develop a New Orleans second line vibe. Stephen Randall, drummer for The Day Walkers and his own band, The Big Easy Playboys, recorded his performances for most of the song’s percussion tracks at his studio while Speck performed and recorded the rest at Stonewall Studio, in the Marigny, where it all was mixed.
In 2020, Speck released a music video for Stranger in a Stranger Land, a composition from his last 11 song CD titled Songs with Accordion, Bass and Percussion (GSM Records)
